Richard Porter is Director of Technology and Innovation at Zenzic, defining and overseeing a £200m portfolio of investments to make the UK the global centre for testing and development of self-driving technologies, building on existing and delivering new capabilities, both physical and virtual. Previously Richard was Director of Research and Innovation at Highways England, UK Research Liaison to US DoD, Security policy advisor and crisis manager at FCO. Richard is always interested in new technologies and encouraging collaboration to deliver technologies to market quickly and effectively.
Connected and Automated Mobility will be underpinned by data - Data for safety, data for efficiency, data for orchestration and data for entertainment. However, the emerging unconstrained ecosystem of vehicles, infrastructure and 3rd party services is leading to a reality where design domains are unbounded. Road based transportation is likely to be the first Safety Critical National Infrastructure to have such an emergent architecture. In this situation, systems must be secure by design, but what principles should that design consider?
